I get these emails from time to time from my father... Some of them have links to various sights explaining some type of economical or geological or legislative issue the United States is facing. Usually they leave a bleak outlook on the state of things. I was reading a similar link the other morning while my son was standing there next to me. I looked down at him, and I noticed he was staring at the monitor completely unaware of its content. It brought tears to my eyes to think of the state in which I along with millions of others may be leaving our nation for this younger generation. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that it isn't enough to take steps to perpetuate change through our actions. We need to perpetuate change through people and through Christ. Our only real hope is to go out and make believers in Christ who live and breath the story of His love. Only then can we begin to change the course on which this nation is heading. If we have those who love Christ in every position and authority, then this nation could be capable of anything through the power of the Holy Spirit. I am feeling so convicted right now...

Along those lines, I stumbled upon some audio of a Brian McLaren talk which relates beautifully to this entire message of evangelism...

As we approach the final week of the just walk "campaign", our challenge is to take those next steps. We have heard the messages, participated in small groups to discuss these ideas further, so now what are we going to do about it? We as a church feel strongly and firmly that evangelism is not an option. Our desire is that we as a church body will go into our community, into our work places, into our families and develop relationships, discover stories, and discern the next steps that God has in store for each of us. It is amazing what He can do through those who are willing to listen for and obey the voice of His Spirit. My prayer is that we will all be transformed by this process into people that are so passionate about our God and Savior that those who come in contact with us will be effected by the living out of the radical love that Jesus taught so that this love infects our world and brings heaven to earth!
